SSS-rank is the highest tier in ranking systems derived from Japanese gaming culture, where the letter S (from Japanese 'shu,' meaning excellent) was introduced as a grade above A. Double-S and triple-S tiers emerged in arcade games and fighting games to distinguish exceptional performance. The convention spread through anime, gacha games, and tier-list culture, where SSS represents the absolute pinnacle.
