F-rank is the lowest tier in letter-grading systems, originally denoting failure in American academic grading. In gaming and anime culture, F-rank characters occupy the bottom of tier lists, often gaining ironic appreciation from communities that celebrate underdogs. The grade has become a cultural meme in its own right, sometimes carrying more personality than middling ranks.
