Air is one of the four classical elements in Western philosophy, first systematized by Empedocles in the 5th century BCE and later adopted into Aristotelian cosmology. Associated with intellect, communication, and the breath of life, it also appears in Chinese wu xing philosophy (as wind/wood) and Hindu tattva systems (as vayu). Across traditions, air represents the invisible forces of thought, movement, and connection.
