[view source]Cultural Context
Spodumene is a pyroxene mineral and one of the primary commercial sources of lithium. Lithium carbonate, derived from minerals like spodumene, has been used since the 1940s as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder, making it one of the oldest and most important psychiatric medications. The mineral's association with the Irish Druids ancestor ties it to a tradition in which stones and earth materials were believed to carry healing or spiritual properties.
