Psilocybe azurescens, commonly called "flying saucers" for their broad, flat cap shape, were first formally described by Paul Stamets in 1996. Native to the Pacific Northwest coast of the United States, they contain significantly higher concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin than most other species, making them the most potent known wild psilocybin mushroom.
