Lord Shiva Grinding Bhang by Kailash Raj with crescent moon

[view source]Cultural Context

"Lord Shiva Grinding Bhang" is a miniature painting by Kailash Raj depicting Shiva preparing bhang (a cannabis preparation). Bhang has been used in Hindu religious practice for centuries, particularly during Holi and Maha Shivaratri. Shiva is traditionally depicted with a crescent moon on his head, representing the god Chandra. The river Ganga (Ganges) is said to flow from Shiva's matted hair — he caught the river's descent from heaven to soften its impact on earth.

[view source]Justification

Ancestors are a load-bearing trait in the Mibera system — each of the 10,000 Miberas inherits an ancestor as their cultural lineage. The ancestor grails represent each lineage as its own identity.
