[view source]Cultural Context

Tom Wong, known as Tom the Great Sebastian, was a Chinese-Jamaican sound system operator who pioneered Jamaican sound system culture in the 1950s. His sound system was one of the first in Kingston and influenced the generation that followed, including Coxsone Dodd and Duke Reid. The Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) was Jamaica's first radio and television broadcaster, established in 1959. Tokio Aoyama is a contemporary artist whose work provides the primary visual reference.

[view source]Justification

Ancestors are a load-bearing trait in the Mibera system — each of the 10,000 Miberas inherits an ancestor as their cultural lineage. The ancestor grails represent each lineage as its own identity.
