[view source]Cultural Context
Harar is an ancient walled city in eastern Ethiopia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Islam's holiest cities. It has a distinct cultural identity with its own language, architecture, and traditions. Khat (Catha edulis) is a plant native to the Horn of Africa whose leaves are chewed as a stimulant — it has been part of East African social and religious life for centuries. Ethiopian magic scrolls feature distinctive eye motifs and spiral patterns used as protective talismans.

Ancestors are a load-bearing trait in the Mibera system — each of the 10,000 Miberas inherits an ancestor as their cultural lineage. The ancestor grails represent each lineage as its own identity.
