Grail #8971 · Zodiac · Browse all Grails →
[view source]Cultural Context
Aegipan and Pan are both goat-footed figures from Greek mythology. Aegipan is sometimes identified as the origin of Capricorn — said to have transformed into a sea-goat while fleeing Typhon. Pan, god of the wild, is traditionally depicted playing a syrinx (pan flute). Capricorn is ruled by Saturn (147.85 Hz) and is an earth sign, though the sea-goat symbol carries water associations. The seven pipes of the flute correspond to the seven classical planets of ancient astronomy.
